In March, 1919, Alexander Kolchak captured Ufa and was posing a threat to Kazan and Samara. Led by Mikhail frunze, the Red Army started to fought back and in November, 1919, they entered Omsk. Kolchak started to head east but was caught by the Czechs who gave him to the Bolsheviks. Kolchak was shot by the firing squad on 7th February, 1920.

General Mikhail Frunze went to finish off Turkestan of all anti-Bolshevik forces. General Anton Denikin and his army withdrew to the Crimea. Anton made a stand at Rostov before again retreating to Novorossiysk on the Black Sea. He then faced the troops of Mikhail Tukhachevsky, and Denikin was forced to leave Russia in April, 1920.

General Peter Wrangel was now in control of the White Army in the Crimea but was unable to make much impression against General Mikhail Frunze and the Red Army. Then in November, the remaining members of his army left Russia.

About 800,000 soldiers were killed during the Civil War. It's estimated that another 8 million died from starvation and disease as result of the war.




Red Army Wins

The original flag for the Red Army. Vladimir Lenin and his army won Russia's first Civil War. Although victorious, Vladimir had a lot on his plate. He had to build the country from the ground up, and with much disease and famine, this was a very difficult task.
